Now is the season of yellow ginkgo leaves flying in the wind. “… and what else…?”. She is looking at her mother’s notes and is off to do the groceries. “Miko Chan do your best!”. Pochi is accompanying and supporting her.

I never learned to make dolls from anyone. For many years I was thinking about how to make dolls and was looking for a suitable material. That was strenuous but also very fun. This doll here I made with that suitable material basically as a trial. A nice lady from Vienna wanted to buy her although I did not really want to since I had the image of that doll being a trial piece. That lady accepted that but still wanted to by my doll because a long time ago she travelled to Peru and there she saw a woman who looked like that. Because of that experience she really wanted to by this doll. I feel very moved and am happy that my doll is with that lady now. I made that doll with much dedication and it holds meaning for myself. I named her “Utah”.
人形の作り方は、誰にも習ったことがありません。長い間、どのようにして人形を作ろうかと考え、材料を探していました。それはしんどいことでしたが、とても楽しくもありました。この人形は、理想的な材料をやっと見つけて作ってみた、「試し」の作品です。ウィーンのご年配のご婦人が、この人形を買いたいとおっしゃった時、私は、これは習作だから売れない、と言いました。ご婦人はそれを理解してくださった上で、昔、ペルーを旅行した時、この人形によく似た女性を見かけ、懐かしい気がするので、是非、売って欲しい、とのことでした。私はとても感銘を受け、今では、この子がご婦人のところにいることを、とても嬉しく思っています。私はこの子を、心を込めて作りましたし、私にとっても、とても意味深い人形です。「ユタ」と私は名付けていました。

Today is May 1st and this is the “Day of Labour”. Here in Austria it is a public holiday. Today her father is home and she is very happy. In the evening they are going to the opera together. Daddy is always very busy and it is not often that they can do that. Today there is a performance of “Aida” and she heard that it is a story from ancient Egypt. She will get dressed up and is very excited…
今日は５月１日。「労働者の日（メイ ディ）」で、ここ、オーストリアでは祭日です。この子はお父さんがお家にいるのでとても嬉しいです。今夜、二人は一緒にオペラに行きます。お父さんはいつもとても忙しいので、久しぶりです。演目は「アイーダ」。昔のエジプトのお話だそうです。この子はおしゃれをして、わくわくしています。

Finally there is nice weather in Vienna and soon she will be able to go pick some strawberries.. “Girls with baskets”. The baskets can be used to store small items such as rings, etc.
やっとウィーンも穏やかな気候となりました！苺を摘みに行けるのも、もうじきでしょう… 「籠を持った女の子」より 籠の中に、指輪など、小さなものを入れられます。

From the series “Girls with pullovers”. It is early March but here in Vienna it is still cold outside. People are still wearing thick pullovers but she wants at least to show some colour and dream about spring. (Sold)

At her grandmother’s house in the storage room she found something fascinating. Her Granny says a long time ago this thing was used as a telephone. But this thing is so heavy and no matter how or where it is touched it feels hard and there is resistance. Curious, she lifts up the receiver…”It would be amazing if we could hear the voices of people from the past…”
おばあちゃんの物置ですごい物を見つけました。ずっと昔使っていた電話器なんだそうです。でも、すごく重くて、どこを触っても固くて抵抗しているみたい。そっと受話器を耳にあててみます。「昔の人の声が聞こえたらいいな…」
