At Vienna City Conservatory (now MUK) I had to take “Sprechen” as a compulsory course. Those are lessons for actors and singers with the aim of developing beautiful  German pronounciation for our work. My teacher was Prof. Ferdinand Kaup, a famous actor, who appeared in plays at Burgtheater Wien and Television series.      After studying the basics, he told me to bring a book or a text of my own choice for studying. One time I studied the childrens’ book “Frederick” with him. This book I found by chance at a bookstore. It is a childrens’ book with illustrations and it is about a mouse named Frederick and his mice friends. I thought that I could read it with my teacher. As I had thought, Prof.Kaup’s  interpretation was quite interesting. Of course it was very difficult for me but it was a lot of fun impersonating a mouse.     Recently in Japan I found a Frederick figure and for the first time I heard that it is in fact a very famous story.      I think Frederick stands for all artists. While other mice were working and collecting food for winter in their shed,  Frederick  enriched his inner inspiration and artistic seeds. And in winter in the shed when the mice were bored, Frederick let his artistry unfold and told a story. The other mice were happy about that. Because I am a singer, if I could somehow make people happy through my music, that would be wonderful. This story always serves as my support.     Since I have a cold right now, I cannot practice and have to recover from  it, but I am saving my imagination for study…

ウィーン市立音楽院（現在のMUK）で勉強していた頃、「シュプレヒェン」の授業が義務ずけられていました。これは、演劇や声楽を勉強する人が美しいドイツ語の発音を習う授業です。私の先生は、フェルディナント　カウプ先生とおっしゃって、ウィーン王宮劇場やテレヴィのドラマシリーズなどで活躍されている俳優でした。　　基礎の発音を教わった後、自分で習いたい本や歌詞などを選んで持ってくるように、と先生はおっしゃいました。そこで、本屋さんで偶然見つけた絵本「フレデリック」を勉強することにしました。「フレデリック」という名前のねずみとねずみ仲間のお話です。思った通り、カウプ先生の解釈はとても面白かったです。もちろん、私には、表現するのが非常に難しかったですが、ねずみになった気持ちがして、とても楽しかったです。　　最近、日本で偶然、「フレデリック」のぬいぐるみを見つけ、初めて、有名な絵本だと知りました。私は「フレデリック」は「芸術家」の象徴と思っています。他のねずみたちが、来る冬に備えて、食べ物を納屋に運んで集めている間、フレデリックは、彼の中に想像力など、芸術の種を蓄えます。冬が来て、納屋にこもったねずみたちは退屈します。その時、フレデリックは、彼の中の蓄えを、「お話」としてみんなに披露するのです。他のねずみたちは大喜びします。私は声楽家なので、こんなふうに、人に自分の演奏をよろこんでいただけたらどんなにいいだろう、と思います。この物語は、いつも私の支えです。　　今、私は少し風邪気味で、歌の練習ができませんが、想像力を蓄えて勉強しようと思います…

Right now I am in northern Italy to have voice lessons from my teacher. For the first time I am staying at an agricultural property. Here at this property I am amazed that it was constructed with wheelchair accessibility in mind since it is almost barrier-free inside the rooms and also between the buildings. It is very nice that people have such considerations and I think that there should be more and more such buildings all over. There is also a playground for children, a large garden to take walks and it is for everyone. Surely in summer there will be many guests enjoying this property during their vacation. We all are sharing this earth and together we should aspire to a better future…

今、イタリア北部に歌を習いに来ています。初めて農家の宿泊施設を利用しています。ここは、車椅子の方が使いやすいように設計されていることに気がつき、感動しました。部屋の中や建物間に段や敷居がない点、その他、よく考えてつくられています。きっと今日では、このような建物が多くなってきているだろうと思います。子供のための遊び場や、散歩のできる広い庭もあり、皆のための施設という感じがします。きっと、夏は、休暇を楽しむ人でにぎわうことでしょう。　　皆、この地球を分かち合っていますね。皆で一緒に、住み良い未来を築いてゆく努力を続けたいですね。

In the garden, I found my king！  お庭で私の王様を見つけました！

When I sarted to live in Europe, I saw Advent calendar for the first time. There are different sizes, ranging from postcard size up to poster size, and others are even the size of parts of buildings (for example the one in front of City Hall in Vienna). Today I saw this one in the centre of Torino, Italy. Often it is some kind of painting with windows that show the day-date on the outside and are opened on that day. Inside the windows are some decorations such as paintings or words and  I heard that also there are those which have sweets hidden behind the windows. From the first of December, every day another window is opened and people look forward to Christmas. In Japan there is a childrens’ song “How many more nights do we sleep until New Year…”. In Japan, the first day of January is a traditional big event. Families gather, special foods are served and children receive money as gifts from older people. The time of crossing over to the New Year has deep religious meaning in Japan. Temple bells are rung 108 times, many people visit temples or shrines and it is a time of introspect contemplating the new year and wishing for good things to come, etc. I think it is a little bit like Christmas, when families gather and some go to church. By the way, recently in an American sitcom it was shown as though Japanese people celebrate the arrival of the New Year with fireworks. This is totally incorrect.

ヨーロッパに住むようになって初めて「アドヴェントカレンダー」を見ました。いろんな大きさがあって、絵葉書サイズからポスターサイズ、大きいものは建物の一部分を使ったもの（例えばウィーンの市庁舎）まであります。今日はイタリアのトリーノの街に、この写真のアドヴェントカレンダーを見つけました。　　アドヴェントカレンダーは、通常、絵などの上に1から24まで数字が書かれていて、それぞれの数字のまわりに切れ目などがあり、開けれるようになっています。これを12月1日から毎日ひとつずつ開け、クリスマスを心待ちにするというもの。日付と同じ番号を開けた下には、絵や、格言などが隠されています。中にはお菓子が入っているものもあるそうで、わくわく楽しいカレンダーなんです。　　　日本では「もういくつ寝るとお正月…」の歌のように、楽しみなのはお正月ですよね。家族でお祝いして、おせち料理いただいて、子供達はお年玉もらって…       大晦日から元旦の移り目も、伝統としてとても大切ですよね。お寺では除夜の鐘…    神社やお寺に初詣する人々…    内省的で厳かな気持ちや、新年への希望など…    私は、そこには、ヨーロッパのクリスマスの雰囲気に共通するものがあるように思います。家族でお祝いしたり、教会のミサに行ったり…  とても重要で厳かな感じを受けます。　　最近、アメリカのテレヴィのコメディドラマシリーズのひとコマに、大晦日から元旦へのうつり目を日本人が花火を上げて祝っている、というのを見ました。とんでもない間違いだと、残念に思います。

It is often said “My life is only once”. I totally agree with that. Every life is precious because everyone is unique. Because life is only once, I think it is very important to make the best of it.   I  do not criticize those who may decide to end their own life, but if there is any possibility at all, we all should try to live. Maybe soon the perspective changes and becomes totally different.       And the thing I absolutely categorize as bad is when someone prevents, damages or intentionally limits someone else’s life (not in case of accidents). I think those people really do not understand the precious value of our unique lives, which are only once…

よく「人生は一度だけ」という言葉を耳にします。本当にその通りですよね。ひとりひとりがひとつずつしか持っていない、かけがえのない命。それぞれの可能性を最大に発揮できたらいいですね。  私は、自ら命を絶つ人を批判はできません。しかし、もし、少しでも可能性があるならば、とにかく生きてみようではありませんか。もしかしたら、もう少ししたら、見える景色が違っているかもしれない。   私が決してするべきではないと思うのは、事故ではなく、故意に他の命を粗末にすること。他人の妨害をしたり、悪口を言うことなど…
