“When I hear gypsy violins…” from the Operetta “Die Gräfin Mariza” by Emmerich Kalmán
Piano – Leopold Grossmann Specialist in Viennese Music, Taken from the CD “Vienna Breeze(2011)”
When I hear gypsy violins together with the fierce cymbal sound, my heart gets a peculiar feeling and my desires awaken. A passionate Csardas dream reverberates throughout the room…… When I see the Tokai wine, red as blood and hot as fire; come and liberate may soul, play for me gypsy…. Where does love reside? Who can tell me? Who shall I ask?….. Just once kissing until love’s flames consume me. Only once I want to be happy….

This is one of the last recordings of Maestro Anton Guadagno about one month before he passed away (2002). The first part of this aria was recorded 1998 in Poland and the second part was recorded 2002 in the Czech Republic. The second part is extremely difficult; when I finished singing, Maestro was jumping up and down and yelled “brava”. This was an incredible honour for a young singer like myself and I thank him from my heart. I wanted to continue studying with him but unfortunately, there was no more opportunity to do so…
